Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are fantastic; they are eager to learn and create art. We are an urban Title I school with a diverse population. The majority of my students are bilingual and some are displaced refugees.

I work in a community called Vickery Meadow, which is an ethnically diverse community consisting almost exclusively of apartment buildings and known for its large population of immigrant and refugees.

98 percent of my students are considered economically disadvantaged and 80.7 percent of my students are English learners. My students deserve to have amazing school (and art) experiences!

My Project

Most children will experience some sort of art class as they grow up, but not all students will get to experience creating with CLAY. In my art class, it is my dream to be able to have my students work with clay. Colored pencils, markers, and paint are amazing, but there is nothing quite like sinking your hands into a fresh block of clay! I believe my students deserve to know what that feels like. Clay will give my students the chance to construct three-dimensional art, which is crucial to their art education.

I guarantee if my students get the opportunity to work with clay it will be their favorite project of the year.

Please help me get my students clay, glaze and ceramic tools. I can't wait to see the excitement in my students when I give them this opportunity!
