Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The odds are against our students and it is up to the adults in their lives to believe in them. As a Teach for America teacher, I believe that every student has the capabilities to succeed- they just need positive reinforcement. With these resources, my students are closer to closing the gap.

My fourth grade scholars come from high risk neighborhoods.

They come to school to quench their thirst for knowledge. My school has an even split between African American and Latino scholars who have the potential to do great-they just need someone to push them and treat them equally. We are all aware of the educational injustices that are done towards this demographic, so it's best to use our knowledge to fight against this.

My Project

Included on my list are items that will create a fun and educational environment for the scholars. The manipulatives are especially important because it gives students a tangible representation of what they are learning. Doing this in math is very important because these concepts can be hard to grasp. These manipulatives will also give scholars the chance to take ownership of their education because they will have the opportunity to create their thoughts. I am asking for a document camera because it would prevent class management problems and aid in presenting information to the students. Using a document camera would force me to face the classroom while demonstrating various things such as how to use the manipulatives and solving a problem. Because I am facing the classroom at all times, it would difficult for students to misbehave and get off task. I also need supplies to decorate the classroom and create that safe, engaging, and welcoming environment I am striving for.

These donations will create an environment where my students feel loved and cared for because they will know that other people are willing to invest in their educational experience.

As a result of this feeling they will be invested in their own education- which is the ultimate goal.
