My Project

As an educator, I work with students with a variety of abilities and disabilities (autism, ASD, ADHD, learning disabilities, and emotional disabilities). I teach all core subjects plus teacher-lead PE. Breathe For Change Mindfulness & SEL, YOGA certification will enhance my current teaching practice.

Student outcomes and benefits:

Children are impacted by stressful events and adversity, just like adults. However, they lack the strategies and tools to help cope.

This certification will allow me to use different intervention strategies to support my students' physical, emotional, and educational needs. I will gain insights on how to equip students with the tools / coping mechanisms to be successful in school and throughout life.

Students will be taught how to manage their emotions, manage stressful situations, stay focused on task, develop self-awareness, empathy, self-confidence, and resilience. Deep breathing for relaxation, mindfulness, exercise through yoga, positive mindset, journaling and self-care are some of the strategies / tools students will learn to help them manage academic stress and emotions.

“Research shows that being able to emotionally self-regulate is associated with lower levels of anxiety and depression later in life” (Penn State Extension).

Students will be able to better manage their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in a healthy way. Thus, l will be able to provide for a safe, healthy, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
