My Project

Our STEAM program at our school is barely a month old, and we already are seeing students engaging with the hands-on projects delivered through their core classes. We are conducting a unit in Language Arts now about water pumps to accompany the 7th grade novel unit based on A LONG WALK TO WATER.

In our 2024 semester, we are introducing "An Ocean of Possibilities In Our Backyard," a cross-curricular project on ocean sustainability in the Lowcountry and beyond.

This will involve the unplugged design of an eco-board game, then adding a computer tech component with small robots as game tokens. The Makeblocks requested will make this possible.

In this project, students will realize the close connection between all of their studies--from Science, to Social Studies, to Math. They also will develop an acute awareness of the wealth of natural life and resources within their own community and how to become a teen steward of these.

The other materials--on Forensic Science and Invisible Ink--will provide proven supplies for intriguing projects for students who spend their flex-period in STEAM enrichment.
