My Students

Appropriate social interactions do not always occur organically between my students. With the help of my wonderful team, I have staged several "JARs", Joint Action Routines, throughout the day to promote social interactions among the students in my class!

There are six students in my first and second grade class.

Each student has a unique personality that contributes to our wonderful classroom atmosphere. My students attend a school in New York that is designated for children with special needs. The staff, including myself, work to ensure that each student receives materials in a way that they can best understand. Often, this means up to six different angles to a single concept or lesson multiple times each day!

My Project

The requested resources will contribute to several activities including "Morning Circle," "Restaurant," "Group Games," and "Move to Improve" activities. During our Morning Circle, students will use a tambourine to play along with our songs. During our Snack JAR, the workers of the restaurant will dress in their aprons and properly use the cash register. Group Games with Twister and card games will allow the students to practice taking turns, following directions, and playing with their classmates. I have also incorporated movement activities where floor mats will provide students with their own designated area. Additionally, seat pockets will also give my students a place to store their own belongings. Finally, Velcro plays a major role in my classroom by displaying visual symbols throughout the room and in each lesson. With these resources, my students will master following directions and interacting with their classmates.

With the help of the materials in this project, my students will have countless opportunities to interact with the adults and students in the classroom.

I believe that the activities I have established will help my students as they grow and advance into higher grades. As their social skills blossom and transform, their academic skills will excel as well!
