Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I love creating sensory experiences for my students. I have the pleasure of working with 4 and 5 year old students that will be going to kindergarten after they leave me. I find it important to teach my students how to work on their abilities to solve problems, understand personal space, and use their whole body to learn.

Some of my students have special needs and others are peers, but I feel it is important to have all of my students are able to explore within their own sensory needs.

The carpet that I picked out will allow the students to have the same size space as others. This is the beginning of how we work on personal space. The floor pillows are another way we will work on person space. We will use them in our library in conjunction to the bean bag and floor chairs that we have. This will offer more students a chance to choose something soft to sit on if they want.

Our library also doubles as our calming corner. I love adding new items to our corner as we go through the different themes that we have and times of year. I love using holiday and season themed activities along with the ones that they love. I find having this safe space helps the students better express themselves as we grow and learn about each other.

I would love to get this funded to create a better learning environment for my students. Thank you for taking the time to read this and consider helping us.
