Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I recently returned to teaching second grade in an urban school.

Despite many challenges, my students come school each day eager to learn how to learn and drive their own learning.

My students love school because they experience thrilling and motivating educational experiences that simultaneously improve their math, writing, reading, science, and social studies skills.

This often takes monetary funding I am not given by my state or school district. Unforgettable learning experiences in second grade help my students retain learning in their long-term memories.

My Project

Project-based learning is what most of us most fondly remember about our elementary school experiences. Slowly, testing pressures are pushing these engaging projects out of classrooms. I believe project-based learning not only helps students learn science, but it aids in creating long-term learning of concepts.

Access to a color printer is priceless, but the printer ink is wildly expensive for a school teacher's budget.

The printer ink and iron-on paper will be used during our animals and habitats unit. As the students study animals and research an animal of their choice, they study the body, learn to draw the animal, and will create an iron-on to make a stuffed animal of their creature.

The spray bottles will come in handy for multitudes of science experiments the students do with partners. Like the stuffed animal project, the experiments the students do are far more memorable than a worksheet or video clip.
