My Project

Mindfulness journals, stress balls, sensory putty, mindfulness coloring books, and CBT resources will help make small-group and individual counseling sessions for high school students fun and engaging. Students will learn to identify sources of stress and worry, understand the physical impact of excessive worry, and learn coping techniques to reduce worry. Students will learn to reduce anxiety through guided imagery, playing as a way to relax, humor, and art activities. Students will also be encouraged to use these techniques at home and in school and to report back their success stories. I also desire to create a calming space (containing materials such as snacks/ drinks, mindfulness coloring books, zen garden, and sensory materials) within my office for struggling students to spend time becoming re-grounded, calm, and ready to face the rest of their day. I hope the techniques and strategies learned will become life-long skills for these students.
