This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Teaching pre reading and wring skills to our future leaders is an exciting endeavor. I have 24 learners in my class. Our community is economically, ethnically, and culturally diverse. Our students are learning how to speak, read, and write in English and Spanish! At my school, we believe in rich, rigorous instruction for all students. My students are eager learners and are fascinated by the idea of learning two languages.

My students love learning!

In order to support their love of reading, my students need tools that are tactile and hands-on to support their phonemic awareness, letter sound correspondence, and decoding. These whiteboards will be used during whole group lessons and in small groups. Students will practice mapping out words together with me, isolating the sounds they hear, and working on the spelling of each word. Creating readers and writers is our goal and a lifelong skill that will provide them with infinite opportunities.

These magnetic whiteboards will provide my students opportunities to practice important skills that will enhance and support their reading and writing development. Providing my students with multi-sensory learning experiences when it comes to reading is crucial to make learning fun, memorable, interactive, engaging, and successful.
