Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are from a low-income community and have historically not been given quality materials to engage them in scientific inquiry. But they are amazing and have a hunger for knowledge and deserve the best education possible! Therefore, I am asking our community to support us in funding the materials they need to feel like authentic environmental scientists!

The students need to feel engaged in their science classes so we can increase engagement and cultivate young people with a higher interest of careers in the STEM field!

The materials I am asking for allow my students to engage in real-world applications of the content they are learning. They will use shovels to dig up soil and earthworms in our community to create their own thriving ecosystems! They will manage their ecocolumns by using soil kits, dissolved oxygen meters, nitrate strips and pH strips to understand balance in a healthy ecosystem and create solutions when something is out of balance. The other materials are for them to engage in labs and create colorful infographics of solution-based ideas to make our planet more sustainable! My goal is to increase engagement in our activities and lessons to further my students' interest in the importance of environmental science!
