Creating Natural Disaster Dioramas

Help me give my students items to create natural disaster dioramas, which will show the process and effects of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tornadoes, tsunamis, and landslides.

My Project

My students love to show their creativity and knowledge through projects! What better way than to let them work in groups to create dioramas! My students are hardworking and have such wonderful creative abilities. By allowing them to show what they have learned about natural disasters in science through the creation of realistic dioramas, they will be able to not only show off their creative sides, but share the abundant amounts of knowledge they have gained from this science unit!

By using modeling clay, diorama boxes, paint, plastic animals, and rocks/sand, my students will get to show the after effects of several different natural disasters!

Each item will be crucial in allowing them to show off the immense amount of knowledge they now how from this unit, while being able to show they can be creative and collaborative. This is a fun way to let them show off what they know! These dioramas will not only allow them to express their creativity, but it will allow them to take a summative assessment in a new, fun way!

My goals for this project are to let my students collaborate in a new way, have fun together while still creating a project/learning, allowing them to do research, and showing off everything they have learned about different natural disasters. They have expressed to me that they would like to do a big, group project like this and I think this will be the perfect way to surprise them with just that! They have worked so hard this year and made so much growth, so this is a way to reward them, while still assessing them on their most recent science unit!
