This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach pre-kindergarten at a small, neighborhood school in Central Florida. Our school is a Title I school and the majority of students qualify for free and reduced-price lunch. We are growing our pre-k program and will be starting our second year.

The majority of our students start pre-k speaking only Spanish and need an authentic experiences to foster a love of learning and an introduction to vocabulary in these subject areas.

Our students are like little sponges as they are ready and willing to participate in these new activities!

My Project

Pre-K students need to be engaged in learning new math concepts through play. We will be exploring sorting, counting, number identification, shapes, measurement, addition and subtraction this year.

Young children thrive on novelty, so we are looking to offer a variety of activities that will provide practice on the same concept over time.

We will work on counting with number puzzles, counting games and even stepping stones, which also incorporates gross motor! With the magnetic self checker set, pre-kindergarten students will work in partners on shapes, counting and beginning addition.

Children learn best through play. hese games and manipulatives will provide a fun way to engage my pre-k students all while building a strong math foundation.
