This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The students at our school in the south Bronx are busy rehearsing for their first theater production, Aladdin Jr! I am requesting stage lighting and a fog machine to bring a little magic to our theater production of Aladdin Jr.

Our students live in one of the most under served communities in New York City.

As both a social worker, and the director of this project, I am inspired and moved by the power of theater in schools to bring children together and experientially teach SEL skills.

The effects of Covid-19 isolation and loss are so painfully apparent this school year. Students are struggling with peer interactions, self esteem, emotional management, anxiety and depression. With theater, students have a place where everyone can feel safe and belong. We have cultivated a compassionate and supportive culture within the cast. Teamwork, growth mindset, kindness and personal responsibility are our core values. We are all creating something special that we can all be proud of.

Unfortunately, we have no budget for lighting, sets and costumes. Please consider donating to our project! We need to make that magic carpet fly! Our kids deserve it! The show must go on!
