Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Bishop Elementary is a Title 1 school. In the past, more than 60% of our student population received free or reduced lunch. A large percentage of our population encompasses second language learners (EL's). The materials on my list will help my students grow as learners in all the subject areas. For example, in writing we publish many of our writing pieces that include images and captions. Colored ink is a necessity. The use of whiteboards is a daily activity in our classroom, especially during Math and SEL (Social Emotional Learning). Students use the whiteboards for guided practice in Math, providing me with immediate feedback who gets it, and who needs more scaffolding and support. Furthermore, we use our whiteboards for brain breaks (SEL) throughout the day. Some of our activities include: Don't Draw the Dog, Boggle, Scattergories, Watchamadrawit! Unfortunately, the whiteboards, markers, and erasers don't last long. I'm often replenishing these supplies. In reading, I have my proficient readers in Literature Circles participating in Novel studies. I would like to grow my library with new engaging chapter books and new book bins.
