Creating Lifelong Artists: Letting Our Creativity Shine!

Help me give my students art supplies for the Creative Arts Learning Area during our daily time at Purposeful Play. Items like consumable art materials and our very own class drying rack will help our young artists bloom!

My Project

For this project, I am asking for art supplies for the Creative Arts Learning Area of our daily time at Purposeful Play. Purposeful Play in first grade has been divided into four critical Learning Areas, Creative Arts being one of them. This year, I have many students who thrive in artistic environments and seek opportunities to let their creativity shine. However, providing access to a wide range of art materials can be financially difficult to keep up with on my own. Our district has always been focused on serving children through the use of best practices. Not only do our early childhood students desire time to play, but they also need it in order to be successful. Our Purposeful Play committee completed months of research and collaboration to determine what changes needed to be made in order to serve the whole child. Our conclusion was this,

“Decades of research and evidence tell us that children construct their knowledge and make sense of the world through play.

Purposeful Play allows children to make meaning out of seemingly everyday experiences. It is engaging and intentional.”

Our implementation of Purposeful Play allows students to engage in inquiry choice play. I use this time to promote critical thinking skills in our young scholars while tracking the meaningful academic connections that the students are authentically making through their playtime. Using the Creative Arts Learning Area as an opportunity to spark students' love for the arts, while also making connections to the world around them, is a critical piece of a successful Purposeful Play environment. Your donations of consumable art materials and a classroom drying rack will help serve my students well beyond just this year in first grade. You are helping to inspire a new generation of creative artists for years to come!
