This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a special place because it is one of the most diverse schools in the Houston Independent School District. Our school mission revolves around accepting diversity! We have used sports to connect our students and have committed to being a healthy campus. In recent months, we have been challenged as a school and community, due to the budget crisis. Although we have been able to use creativity in our curriculum we are in desperate need of teaching resources.

The low-income students we have at our school have many challenges outside of school, that makes the chance for an equal opportunity even more of a vital necessity.

We are now in a scramble to find equipment that intrigues kids to stay healthy! Accommodating our large number of students has become even more of an untouchable situation because of our lack of resources. Through this tough situation we have stuck together and managed to create a limited learning environment, but need the community's help!

My Project

Over the past couple of years we depleted our girls basketball equipment. The plan is to take care of the disappearing girl's basketball program and provide equipment, which can be utilized for years. The loss of female equipment has extremely dampened the confidence in these young students. Providing escapes for low income students is critical in the overall achievements those students make in their young life.

The resources will allow these young women to escape their everyday worries, and feel like they're be given an equal opportunity to succeed!

The project's resources will start the girls basketball program back, but will also give girl's vital clothing needed to be confident while practicing. These important items will save students from losing the faith in believing they will receive the same important resource as more fortunate kids.
