This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am excited to introduce my project, "Creating Equal Opportunities: Supporting Underprivileged Students with Calculators," which not only aims to bridge the financial gap but also recognizes the significance of social-emotional learning in the educational journey of my students.

By providing underprivileged students with TI-84 Plus CE calculators, we are not only offering them the tools they need to excel academically but also nurturing their social-emotional well-being.

Here are some of the ways this project aligns with social-emotional learning:

These calculators will enable students to explore mathematical concepts independently, encouraging self-reflection and self-awareness of their strengths and areas for growth. They can track their progress, set goals, and develop a deeper understanding of their abilities.

The calculators support students in managing their learning effectively. They can organize data, analyze information, and make informed decisions. This cultivates their ability to plan, prioritize, and stay focused, fostering self-discipline and time management skills.

Through collaborative problem-solving activities using these calculators, students develop an understanding of diverse perspectives. They learn to appreciate and respect the unique contributions of their peers, fostering empathy, and building positive relationships within the classroom.

Relationship Skills: The project encourages students to work together, share knowledge, and support one another in their learning journey. Collaborative activities using calculators promote effective communication, teamwork, and conflict-resolution skills, which are vital for building healthy relationships.

Through the "Creating Equal Opportunities" project, we are not only providing calculators but also fostering social-emotional growth in our students. By recognizing and nurturing their social-emotional well-being, we are empowering them with skills that will contribute to their overall success, both academically and in their personal lives.
