Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students will first study the work of conservation biologist Sam Wynns, who helps protect animals and plants and the habitat they live in. Students will then use the Exploring Nature Journals to explore, observe, and record nature in the urban community in which they live.

Students will use the DJI Mini 2 Fly drone to get a unique bird's eye view of the community and compare and contrast the urban elements to the natural landscape of the community, which includes observing the plants and animals that inhabit the school community.

Students will sketch the wildlife and landscape they observe first as they take a nature walk around the school community and afterwards, they will add to their Nature Journal what they observe in the DJI Mini 2 Fly drone video recordings of the community. Students will add in their Nature Journal the daily temperature, detailed sketches of plants, insects, and animals, and any other scientific notes.

Students will then produce short video films by editing the DJI Mini 2 Fly drone video footage and narrating a description of the landscape and nature they observed in our school community.
