My Students

Help us focus on what we need to learn! When sitting to learn is challenging, learning doesn't take place as easily.

My students are 12 children with special needs who want to learn, but grow easily distracted.

When they grow distracted, the material becomes frustrating for then to tackle. As third, fourth, and fifth graders, these students are beginning to find ways to overcome their disabilities and need assistance in doing so. These students all have varying abilities and disabilities, but what they all have in common is their need to pay attention to their task in order to learn and demonstrate their knowledge!

My Project

The resources I am asking for will help my students achieve their goals of focusing more and staying on task while learning. The fidget toys are for rug time, when students are interacting with the group lesson or listening to a read aloud. The timers are important for the students to understand how much longer they need to focus on a task. Since the majority of the class do not know how to read a clock and calculate time, the red timers are irritant to show time countdown. Lastly the reading strips and books are to encourage their reading. The students have fallen in love with other read aloud books in the series and need background knowledge. The strips are to help student focus on their reading, line by line, assisting the tracking of the words. When the students get confused in their reading, they give up. The students will benefit from these materials by maintaining the love for learning, which is important at this age, right before they head off to middle school.

These resources will help this class be successful in every activity they participate in all year long.

Reading is the fundamental skill needed in all activities, including social studies, math and writing. Focus is needed for every aspect of school and to become deeper thinkers by paying attention to the tasks at hand. Please help us achieve learning!
