My Students

My students are observant, creative, and curious. They have a ton of energy and a lot of questions!

It is amazing to watch how their minds work, the different perspectives they each have, and how they come together to understand each other.

Many of my students are first-generation American and speak other languages in their homes, often having to translate to their parents. It is rewarding to see them each come in, prepared and eager every day.

I am a teacher in an ICT classroom filled with eager students who need much supports. Our school is a Title 1 school, with limited resources. All of our students qualify and receive free lunch. As teachers, it is our challenge to find ways to give our students what they need with the limited budget that we have.

My Project

Digital coding can be jarring to some students. My class is a mix of different abilities and learning styles. Some learn better with visuals, others need hands-on manipulatives. Each child learns in a different way and it’s my challenge to better differentiate my lessons.

I am requesting Osmo genius kits for iPads and fire tablets, and Osmo Pizza co game, Coding Jam game, Coding Awbie game, and Detective agency game to create literacy centers in the classroom.

Through the Osmo Pizza Company game, students will learn to work with money and making change; students learn to code through music with Coding Jam; Coding Awbie teaches students to code a character in the game using coding blocks; Detective Agency puts the student in a detective’s shoes as they navigate the six famous cities, inspect hundreds of clues with a magnifying glass, and learn about geography and cultures around the world!

Using these materials will ease our students into the world of coding while building literacy and math skills and using their imagination.
