We are a culturally diverse, high-need class of 5th graders hungry for more information about our local community! Many of us come from immigrant families new to the country and we would love to learn more about our surroundings and how they fit in with the history of the United States as a whole.

While our school is able to provide us with paper and a binding machine and I am willing to use my personal digital camera, we want to explore the history of our community and document it on a community calendar. In order to do this, we need a color printer, which our school cannot provide. We plan to research the community, design the calendar layout, take walking trips to explore and take the pictures, work in teams to bind the calendars, then present them to our families as gifts at a springtime presentation about our project.

We need a color printer in order to really make the calendar look professional. This printer could also have many other uses for the students, especially across the subjects when we are studying graphs. Often, we would like to create and print color charts and graphs to analyze information we've gathered ourselves and we must resort to coloring the graphs instead of using technology to its fullest.

Your help will enable students to create powerful presentations and projects right in the classroom instead of waiting for the one period a week we are able to visit the school computer lab. Many of the students have very limited or no access to computers at home, not to mention printers of any sort.
