Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from low-income/high poverty homes. Due to their social economic levels, they are faced with several challenges. Now, after Hurricane Harvey they must endure many new challenges I hope other children will never have to face. While our elementary school is being cleaned up and repaired from flood damages, our students are being bussed more than 30 minutes away from their home school community into a 3 story high school. Despite the many extra challenges my class will face this year because of Hurricane Harvey, I am looking to keep things as normal as possible and provide my students with the most comfortable pre-k classroom possible so that they can enjoy creative and meaningful learning experiences that I will provide for them.

My Project

We will use these materials to aide us in the process of becoming life-long learners. The classroom carpet will provide an area where my students can sit comfortably when I teach whole group lessons including literacy, mathematics, social studies, and science. Small seats will provide comfort in our small group area where I will focus on individualized and differentiated instruction. Mats will provide an inexpensive way to give comfort when my children are napping. I believe when children are provided a comfortable active, risk free environment they have a better opportunity to perform to their fullest potential which in turn will promote life long learners.
