This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My 10th-grade advisory students are full of energy, curiosity, and resilience. They juggle the challenges of school, family responsibilities, and the pressures of growing up in a fast-paced city. Our advisory is more than just a homeroom—it’s a safe space where students can unwind, connect, and support one another. Every day, we gather in restorative circles to check in, reflect, and build community, but the physical limitations of our classroom make this difficult.

Right now, we try to arrange traditional chairs into a circle, but they are bulky, uncomfortable, and make the space feel rigid rather than welcoming.

I am requesting 10 padded floor chairs and 2 inflatable couches to give my students flexible seating options that allow them to sit comfortably, relax, and focus on meaningful discussions. These simple additions will transform our advisory space into a calming environment where students feel safe enough to be vulnerable, express their emotions, and develop the social-emotional skills they need for success.

Many of my students come to school looking for stability and support, and this project will help create a more inviting and peaceful atmosphere. With your support, my students will have a dedicated space that fosters comfort, openness, and connection—one where they can truly be themselves and continue growing into thoughtful, compassionate young adults. Thank you for helping make our classroom a place of calm, community, and care!
