My Students

My scholars are tomorrow's leaders who will change the world. Driven by obtaining a rich education, every morning my students answer the question, "How are you doing today?" with the response, "Hungry for knowledge to get me to college."

When I think of resilience, I think of my students.

When I think of determination, I think of my students. When I think of love, kindness, growth, and desire, I think of my students.

Although my students face obstacles in their daily lives from the reality of living in a large urban city that has been plagued by decades of segregation, my students are the future of Chicago, the future of the United States, and the future of our world. They deserve an excellent education—with resources to help encourage lifelong learning—so that they can actively work towards their goals of making a difference.

My Project

This wishlist has been created with the intention of bringing joy to our classroom, while also allowing students to develop self-regulation and character development skills. The items on this wishlist will encourage creativity and deep reflection while cultivating a positive classroom culture.

Social-emotional development is just as critical to a child's success as the emphasis on rigor within academic content areas.

The composition notebooks will serve as a journal to supplement our meditation practice and will be a mode of communication between myself and my students. The crayons and colored pencils will allow every student to have their own individual set of art supplies for the crafts we will do. The chair bands will allow fidgety children to have a way to move their bodies without disrupting the learning environment. The games and lego pieces will be used during our choice time/free play to build teamwork, critical thinking skills, and creativity. All of these tools will greatly benefit the scholars in my class, as they will allow students to have the time to just be children and develop the social-emotional skills that come with peer interaction and creative thinking.
