My Project

The past 2 years we have experienced many students with social emotional issues especially due to the pandemic. I also have many students with special needs that have difficulty communicating their feelings. I am looking to create a calming corner in our classroom to help students navigate their feelings in a positive way.

Little children often have big emotions and sometimes have difficulty with expressing and controlling those feelings.

I would like to create an inviting calm down center in our classroom where students feel comfortable to go and manage their feelings. I would like to have a variety of sensory tools there for them to take a break and regulate their emotions. I would like to use books, mirrors and plush emotion figures to help students identify their feelings. I would like to use different sensory tubes, bottles, pads and mazes to help students relax and calm down when they may be feeling frustrated or overwhelmed. I would like to use the Elephant and Pup to help students learn breathing techniques and use music to calm down.
