Creating Calm for Preschoolers

My Students

I am the very lucky teacher of students in an urban, integrated preschool. I love teaching the youngest learners in our district! My classroom consists of a mixed age group of students, ages 3, 4, and 5 years old. Some of my students have special needs, and some of my students are typically developing.

Our school family works so hard every day to learn skills to develop students' communication, social, motor, adaptive, and cognitive skills.

My Project

In the chaos of today's world, my students desperately need our classroom to be a calm, safe haven. I would love to introduce a weekly yoga lesson to my students. We would use the yoga books to spark interest and to provide visuals about what yoga is and how it looks!

We would use our yoga mats to spread out and practice some calming breathing and stretches.

Sensory toys would be added to our Calm Down Corner to provide students with tools to calm themselves during the school day when they need this.
