Creating an Optimal Environment for Young Learners

My students need a portable AC unit. We are in a school building without AC and only a few windows that crack open. My room quickly becomes 90+ degrees, which is not an optimal learning environment.

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I work with the youngest learners in a neighborhood of Baltimore City. This is their first formal learning experience and it is crucial that they have a safe, comfortable,and secure learning environment.

100% of my students qualify for FARMS (free and reduced meals) and are used to going without some basic necessities.

This makes creating a love of school and learning all the more important for their educational success in kindergarten and moving forward.

My students are outgoing, fun-loving, passionate, and curious individuals that deserve the best learning environment possible!

My Project

My young students need a comfortable, secure, clean environment to best meet their learning needs. They are entering their first formal schooling setting, and it is vital to instill a love of learning in them at this early age. Part of creating a safe learning environment requires me to meet the physical needs of my students.

In 90+ degree weather, students are uncomfortable and unhappy, which negatively affects their ability to learn.

In order to provide an optimal school experience and to maximize learning, students need to be comfortable. A portable AC unit would eliminate the distraction of being physically uncomfortable, allowing them to concentrate on learning and having fun!
