Creating an Inviting Learning Space With Rug and Bean Bags

My students need a medium, comfortable carpet for their whole group learning and Flex-Space Bean Bags in their small-group learning areas. These will provide flexible seating and assist in meeting the needs of my diverse students.

My Students

My students are very vibrant young souls that are excited about learning and want to absorb as much new knowledge and skills as possible. With little to no educational support at home, my students enjoying learning in an engaging environment that feels welcoming and where they can be comfortable.

For some of the students, the only schooling their young minds receive is during the few hours that I have with them each day.

I want to be able to set a strong foundation for future learning in my students, but can sometimes be difficult with my classroom being very limited in the resources that are available.

Many of my students were highly affected by Hurricane Harvey, yet they still manage to come to school eager and ready to learn everyday. Due to Hurricane Harvey, some of my students are displaced and are living in foster care, packed shelters, with other relatives or being raised by their grandparents. Some students are living in households where the parents are young parents who are high school dropouts.

My Project

My first grade students will use the new carpet and flex-space bean bags for everyday small group time as well as be used for partner literacy and math station activities. They will also congregate on the carpet during whole group mini lessons prior to guided math and reading. The donations to the carpet and flex-space bean bags project will improve my classroom by providing a comfortable work space and flexible seating for my students to learn, create and inspire each other. Our classroom is smaller than most and the new carpet and flex space bean bags will be life changing for my students by allowing them to have an alternative space to work other than their desks.
