Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am currently working as a speech-language pathologist in a specialized high school for students with disabilities. These students, ages 12-21+, have complex sensory and communication needs and are actively working towards transitioning into the community and becoming more independent in their abilities. Most of the students on my caseload demonstrate behaviors that are limiting their academic, vocational, and social progress due to a lack of sensory opportunities in the classroom. It is my goal to implement sensory areas/supports into each classroom that I am assigned, as well as in speech therapy sessions.

Moreover, a majority of my caseload requires alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) to communicate and express their fundamental wants and needs.

Given the tools to support the technology they are using to communicate, my students can readily engage in all school activities by ensuring their devices are safe, secure, and easily transferrable. Thank you!
