My Students

Our school is a District 75 school, which is a city-wide district that serves students with various special needs.

I am a special education teacher working with 12 5th grade students throughout the year. My students face various challenges, from learning difficulties to behavioral issues. Although each of them is unique, they all share a love for technology.

My Project

The iPad will allow students to interact with our Smartboard right from their seats with programs like Splashtop. This will help them engage with the lesson and participate more without having to call out or get out of their seats. They also can use the countless math apps that are available as a supplement to their current curriculum. I'm asking for 1 iPad to start with because I want to encourage small group work which is a major challenge for many of my students. I am envisioning a class where students can begin to gain self-confidence and be active participants in the classroom.

Our society is driven by technology, yet my classroom is not rich in technology, so my students are not afforded the opportunity to incorporate it in their everyday learning experience.

Their lives will change because they will be given the spark to get involved in lessons and activities. Many of them are far below grade level, and this keeps them discouraged, but I believe they just need tools to get them motivated!
