This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Technology is such a huge part of our culture. There are so many opportunities to use it in my classroom all across the curriculum. But, I only have one working computer and even it is questionable. There are many times I turn it on to show the students a video or PowerPoint... and it freezes.

I have a classroom of 24 students.

The majority are English Language Learners who receive free or reduced lunch. They come from homes where both parents work. Some are latch key kids or spend a lot of time with babysitters. My students love learning but do not always have access to materials that encourage them to learn at their full capacity. I have 5 students who attend speech class and 2 students who attend our Learning Center for a portion of the day.

My Project

If I was able to get 2 HP computers for my classroom, I would be able to use one for class demonstrations. When I am not using one to teach I could pair up 2 children to play math or reading games. I could actually have 4 kids working on an HP computer at a time. Our science, social studies and math curriculum's come with child-centered Cd's that the children can use on the computer to supplement our days lesson. I could also have the children work together to create typed writing samples. In this time, it would be a shame not to introduce and teach computer skills, on an HP computer, to my students. Most do not have access to an HP computer at home. That is why it is my job to make sure I give them those skills that they will need in the future.

I would be so grateful if you considered funding this project.
