Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

It is essential for children to learn about important and notable people of their own heritage/culture in order to appreciate and inspire them to excel in school and beyond.

I teach 20 energetic and highly motivated Kindergarten students who enjoy coming to school everyday despite the challenges they overcome daily of crime and poverty.

My students reside within the inner city of a local school district in California. One hundred percent of my class qualifies for free breakfast and lunch meals. Our school is still on year around school schedule, due to an overcrowded community.

My Project

Books depicting notable figures and leaders such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Cesar Chavez, etc., are essential in our learning environment. Students as young as pre-school can understand the concept of injustice, fairness, and character development as they learn about these great leaders as well as others. With the school-to-home organizers my students will have the opportunity to share these stories at home as well and retell important details and biographies of these great leaders with their families. Book boxes would assist in maintaining and organizing books on biographies of notable people as well as other important books. Picture posters of children from all over the world would compliment our classroom tremendously. My students will also be able to compare and contrast similarities and differences of children from every continent with the poster pictures of children from all parts of the world.

My students are visual learners.

I also have kinesthetic learners, musical learners, linguistic and mathematical learners. Immersing my students in literature and biographies of notable African Americans and Hispanic cultures will inspire them to make even greater contributions to society and to the world.
