Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Children spend six to twelve hours a day in school, the environment plays a major role in helping children develop and learn.

A supportive environment is well-organized, dependable, and flexible.

Creating a supportive learning environment requires time, reflection, and planning. Thinking about a child in your classroom…how does the child know where to find paper, paint, markers, and other materials to help them make decisions? Organizing materials by their purpose makes sense for easy access as well as gives students different “learning centers.” The materials listed will allow us to create a well-organized art room through the use of stackable containers for all different kinds of art materials. An easel to demonstrate the process of drawing and painting.

When a child enters a well-designed area, the space should convey:

1) The materials can be found there.

2) The type of play (loud, quiet, social, solitary) that might happen there.

3) The expectations for how to behave there.

4) How to explore, learn, and have fun there.

By Creating an Art Studio for Learning, my students will begin to see themselves as artists who know how to use the materials available to them and develop a sense of autonomy and ownership of this space. As a teacher and artist, I want to make art available and fun for my primary-grade students, and I hope you will help make this a reality through your contribution. Thank You!
