My Students

My students are deaf, hard-of-hearing, and deaf-blind. They have hearing loss ranging from mild to profound. My campus serves as the high school level Regional Day School Program for the Deaf in our area.

My students are bused in from surrounding school districts to receive specialized services such as deaf education teachers, an audiologist, speech pathologist, teacher of the visually impaired, and sign language interpreters.

Most of our students come from low-income households and many have limited access to language (spoken English or sign language) at home. It is imperative for our students to learn new skills in hands-on, visual ways!

My Project

I'm requesting curtains to filter the light (and help us see each other signing easier), calming kinetic sand and Push Pop stress relievers, as well as fun travel-themed classroom decor.

I want to create a zen-like classroom environment for my students; they need an oasis in this world right now.

During our Makerspace time, I'd like for my students to learn how to use epoxy and resin to create and design works of art, decorate their tumblers, or even create their own jewelry - there's so much you can do with it! They'll need cup turners, silicone mats, gloves, and molds, and as well as colorful pigment dyes. I cannot wait to see what they can come up with. These are the most creative students!
