My Students

The students here at Big Lagoon School come from a rural community that stretches approximately 20 miles north and south of the school. Coming to school is a joy for them, and to be able to see and hang out with their friends is important to their social development. They are a bright, ambitious, creative and curious little group of boys and girls, mostly boys, (so the girls are a bit outnumbered, but they definitely hold their own). One of the unique activities here at Big Lagoon School is the kayaking and canoeing once a month. This gives the kids the opportunity to be physically active, hearty and have a special love and knowledge of nature.

My Project

Reading books and great literature helps to discover new worlds and opens your mind up to ideas, events and knowledge that can impact your life. I believe having updated, interesting and new books to read in the library make it possible for the students to acquire a love of books and learning. I also believe the older books are great and I will keep some of them, although I am in the process of weeding our collection and making room for the new books. I am submitting a wish list of books that the students have been asking for and that are missing in our collections. Big Lagoon School has been here for over 50 years and has a great little library and the students love coming into it to check out books and to just hang out with me. The students here at Big Lagoon school are very bright and I want to see them have a passion for reading.
