My Students

Pride in yourself and your work. That is what I want to create for my students by hanging pictures of them working individually and in groups around my classroom and the school.

My students are from all different backgrounds and experiences.

My lower performing students have a great desire to achieve and do better, but often don't have the resources and support necessary to do so. I have taught many of these students and have seen changes when students are recognized and develop pride in their work. They attend a school with one of the highest achievement gaps in the state. However we are in the 7th year of improved state testing scores, and we are focused on closing the achievement gap. With the giving, student-first staff we are confident that we can achieve this goal.

My Project

I visited a high-performing, nationally recognized school in New York this past year and noticed that the hallway walls were covered with pictures of students working, playing sports, receiving awards, and attending field trips. These images created positive feelings and pride in my mind, so I'm sure it has a greater impact on the students and staff at the school. I look forward to creating the same feelings in my students. Pictures of them creating, exploring, and achieving will cover the hallway walls inspiring them to work hard and have pride in their work. My students will learn to have pride in their work and pride in their identities as great students.

Many of my students suffer from negative self-images and lack of self-confidence.

I hope to reverse these feelings and help them to believe in themselves and their abilities. Positive images create pride and foster self-confidence. Seeing these images everyday can have profound impact on my students.
