Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year, I am working in two classrooms with 32 fifth graders. These fifth graders are hardworking, determined, enthusiastic, curious, and creative. Coming back from being remote for a year, we are working on restorative practices and social emotional learning. We want to create an environment that feels warm, welcoming, and inviting. Being remote for a year, something we've learned is that learning does not have to look a certain way and we all learn best in our own ways. Having varied seating, lighting, and plants will help us create a more inviting, warm, and positive learning environment.

My Project

Our goal after coming back from remote learning is to create an environment that feels warm, welcoming, and inviting. Being remote for a year, something we've learned is that learning does not have to look a certain way and we all learn best in our own ways. Having varied seating, lighting, and plants will help us create a more inviting, warm, and positive learning environment. We've created space in our classroom where students can sit on cushions with a lowered table, sit on wobble chairs on other tables or use lap desks. We find that when we provide students with choices in where they learn, they can be more successful. Additionally, using varied lighting will allow us to create a calm and warm environment for our students to support their learning and growth in a positive way. Lastly, the headphones will allow for students to focus on various tasks while reducing noise for them. We thank you for all of your generosity and support in creating the best possible learning environment for our students.
