My Students

I am beginning my second year as a special education teacher. I teach students in grades 3-5 with moderate to severe Autism. Along with being a new teacher this particular Autism program is going on its third year at our school. When I first entered my classroom last year, I noticed my students did not have the materials or resources they needed in order to be successful. Throughout the year I made sure I provided them with what I could while we took the time to get to know and learn from each other. As the new 2016-2017 begins, I want to be sure to kick this year off of the right foot for success and growth.

I have a small class of students who come from low income households and were given the gift of Autism.

Due to this gift, they are unable to meet the Common Core Standards and are on the Alternate Curriculum. With the proper tools and visual supports they are successful in the classroom and throughout campus. They also require much more sensory input than their peers in the general education setting.

My Project

The best way I can assist my students with academic success is to be able to provide them with consistent visual supports, access to colored materials within the curriculum rather that images printed in black and white, and meeting their kinesthetic needs. I am asking for an HP 8600 color printer to better assist them in understanding and maneuvering their environments. Since children with Autism struggle with sitting for any amount of extended time I would like 6 Wobble chairs that will allow them to wiggle while tending to task, and 3 noise reduction headsets to drown out noises for those with noise sensitivity. This project will greatly benefit my students and allow them to work to the best of their abilities. My students and I thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
