Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our classroom, we encourage positive reading habits by setting aside class time for reading, celebrating completed books on our "book wall," and facilitating a classroom reading challenge. Even with these systems and incentives... we think we can do better! Our students have expressed that they read most effectively seated more comfortably and with more flexibility than our traditional desks can offer.

Reading can be a surprisingly stressful and painstaking experience for our kids.

Our classroom is integrated, so a large portion of our students have disabilities that impact their focus and reading skills. We would like to introduce a reading corner into our classroom to better meet the reading needs of our students.

Our reading corner would include a 5x7 rug to create a designated space, two beanbag chairs for comfortable, flexible seating, and two throw pillows to create a warm and cozy atmosphere. If we receive funding for this project, we would like to ensure that all students get an opportunity to utilize this space during independent reading, or as an incentive for early-finishers. We are hopeful that this exciting addition to our classroom will transform the reading culture of our classes. Thank you so much for taking the time to learn about our project.
