My Project

Basic supplies in a classroom are essential to learning and classroom management. As a high school social studies teacher in my first year in the Philadelphia district, I found that I had to supply my own project materials. The materials we need in World History, Geography, and Civics include a color printer and ink, mini whiteboards, lined paper and cardstock paper, rulers, tape, glue sticks, a hot glue gun, scissors, pencils, colored pencils, post-it-notes, folders, model magic, craft sticks, wire cutter, laminating pouches, highlighters, Sharpie markers and Crayola markers, poster board, Play Doh, a hole punch, and 3D printer filament.

Donating to our project will go a long way to helping the inequity of resources available to my students in the classroom expanding my ability to plan engaging, hands-on activities and project-based learning in all my classes teaching not only world history, geography, and civics but also collaboration, problem-solving, and thinking outside the box.

Without one-for-one computers at our school, we need all the supplies we can get for project to find creative ways to pique their interests in history and the world outside their neighborhood and school. Even more importantly, the projects need to make sense and have a purpose.

In conclusion, I was so excited to find the potential support for my classroom as the more help I get with my supplies, the more food I can bring in every day. My classroom is filled during my lunch and sometimes even my prep period as it has become a haven and a welcoming place for students. The students want to be challenged and are intrigued by what I want to do. The supplies needed to support this learning will bring a different type of confidence for many of my students and let them see a bigger world!
