Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are extraordinary scholars. They are strong believers in equity and push for change continuously. They question and challenge consistently.

My students are fearless, independent, and leaders for change.

The school serves students of color. Additionally, it provides free breakfast and lunch everyday. As the city they live in grows to be more expensive, many of the students are between homes or homeless. Regardless, they believe in the best of the world and want to make it a better place.

My Project

The use of headphones in the classroom allows for students to drone out the background noise when working independently, such as writing their essays.

Students need books representative of who they are to engage with the text.

This is why I added books in the cart that cover diverse topics and are written by diverse authors. These will be essential when students engage in independent reading which will be 10 minutes every day.

Additionally, by implementing auditory feedback reading into the classroom students can hear themselves read their essays and edit it accordingly. It also encourages their reading skills!

As students enter the classroom, it is imperative that we focus on what we can control. This is why there are two lamps. Each homeroom will start with a mediation with colorful lights that allow students to relax and breathing exercises. The incorporation of fidgets in the classroom allows students to redirect their energy while remaining engaged. Lastly, classroom caddies allow students to remain organized and have access to any materials in the classroom without having to ask for permission.
