Creating a Resource Room That Will Help Our Students Thrive

Help me give my students a special education resource room they can be proud to learn and grow academically and emotionally.

My Project

I work at Classical Studies Academy as a special education teacher for students in grades PreK-4th in Bridgeport, CT.

I am requesting items to help make-over our special education resource room.

It is a large room filled with discarded desks, old books and supplies, and it's not a nurturing environment for kiddos with special needs and frequent meltdowns.

I purchased a few sensory toys and learning games; and rearranged the space to be more inviting, but the requested items on my list will help me to create a learning space that will help my students thrive. Specifically: A sensory table and the kinetic sand would help my students with autism use multiple ways of learning by touching and finding letters and words in sand and different textures to further assist them with learning their letters, letter sounds, and eventually, words; A bubble lamp set would help ease the anxiety and overstimulation of my students with adhd, anxiety and autism; creating a stress-free, calm environment for all students. The hopscotch sets would create a play space outside that students could enjoy since we don't have a playground or playground equipment; only concrete. The slime would serve as a reward and incentive for good behavior and positive reinforcement. The bean bags would create a nice reading nook to encourage independent reading; and the elephant stuffed animals would help to calm students recovering from meltdowns when they cannot de-escalate on their own.
