My Project

My first graders absolutely love building and creating things. They love having options for seating and being able to bouncy, wiggle, and move while learning. It's hard to sit still for 7 hours, especially if you're six or seven. I hope to add the wobble chairs so that we can have a few more flexible seating options. I also would love to do small group at a floor table with the cushions.

I think that learning about math or moving letter tiles while being comfortable on the floor would keep my students engaged.

When they come into the classroom we also do brain bins where we build and can start our day off by creating. They love doing this and I have loved seeing the added benefits of starting our day this way. COVID-19 has really taken a toll on these students and their social skills. Building and sharing with both the flexible seating options and morning brain bins have been a great way for them to practice these skills. I hope to add a few more materials for these bins.

We are also a low income school. This means that some students do not have the funds for headphones or they get really inexpensive headphones that break in a day. I hope to give my students good quality tools so that they can feel successful, especially when we use headphones daily.
