Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every class each year is special, but this upcoming school year will be a group I'll never forget. In the fall, my students and I will start our second school year together, as we are looping up from third to fourth grade. We have set a solid foundation, and I can't wait to see what we can achieve together as we deepen our learning and relationships!

Funny, driven, kind, and unique-- these are some of the words that come to mind when describing my students.

We spend our days together learning, sharing, laughing, and helping. My students come from various backgrounds. In my classroom we have multiple countries and languages represented. We also have a varying level of background education and educational needs. We do our best to celebrate our diversities and learn from each other.

My Project

I am using this project to revamp my classroom library to more accurately reflect the lives and cultures of my students. I want for my students to be able to see themselves, and others, in the books kept in our classroom library, so that they understand the value of their uniqueness. My goal is to continue creating a culturally inclusive classroom to build empathy.

Books should act as windows, mirrors, and doors.

I want my students to be able to see themselves reflected in the books found in my classroom. I also hope that my students will be able to view other cultures and ways of life through these books.

In addition to the books I have selected for my students, I have added inclusive, skin tone coloring tools to this project. All students should be able to represent themselves accurately with the resources and materials we have in our classroom!
