Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students have struggled both emotionally and academically since COVID-19. They have had a difficult time adjusting back to the classroom environment and routine. I have also noticed that many of my students have lost the love for reading during these hard times.
My goal is to incorporate flexible seating and an array of comfortable cushions and materials that students can use to read in a quiet and cozy spot in my classroom.
This relaxing atmosphere will instill the spark for reading once again in my students. Currently, I do not have the materials to provide them with a welcoming reading environment. However, once they have access to bean bag chairs, pillows, lamps, and other items, my students will fall in love with the idea of "cozying up with a book."
I have noticed amazing changes in my students when they are given a choice in their seating throughout the room. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, and they are more engaged with the content. I hope that this opportunity will provide my students with an enriching experience to grow stronger as independent readers.
