My Students

Hello! As I prepare for this upcoming school year and my transition back down to first grade, I want to make sure my classroom is prepared for my new group of little learners! I just know they are going to be excited to learn and have they opportunity to do so at the best school in town!

The majority of the students in our school come from low-income households and do not get many of the experiences many others are afforded.

Each and every year, I try to find ways to make learning engaging and fun so that they can have the best possible school year. My students have always been so eager about their learning and seem to have a genuine excitement about being at school each day. I am always looking for new ways to help this continue so their love of learning will continue to grow!

My Project

For my project, I am looking to add more flexible seating options and additional soft lighting to my classroom to help my students be able to work in a comfortable and calm environment. By adding more seating options, more students will have the opportunity to chose the right seat that works for them and find a place where they can spread out and complete their work. The additional soft lighting will help provide the students more light in some areas of our classroom where it can tend to be darker, even with our overhead soft lighting. The lighting will also help the students to feel more calm and not be distracted by the harshness of our regular overhead lighting.

I have used flexible seating and soft lighting in my classroom the past two years and my students have absolutely loved it!!!

I have also received endless compliments on how my classroom has such a home-like feel to it. My students are excited everyday that they come in and I have definitely noticed how the use of both these things have changed my whole classroom. None of this is to say that traditional desks and chairs or classroom lighting is bad! I have just learned in my own experience that this really does change so much about a classroom in such a positive way!
