Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This will be my first year teaching in Watts, Los Angeles. As I completed my student teaching in high-need Title I schools, I formed connections with the students at my school and decided to stay. The students in this community welcomed me and supported me in many ways when I was learning to teach. The amount of love they shared with their peers was evident in and outside the classroom. I want to focus on creating a welcoming space for my 4th-grade students just like they did for me when I was student teaching. It can be challenging to stay in a desk chair all day and having clipboards and a rug will give the students more autonomy in choosing how they want to work. The chart paper will allow small groups to work together in different classroom sections and will also support content learning as we create our own posters/anchor charts. The fidgets will support diverse needs and improve focus.
