Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, I know the challenges my students face every day. These students are creative, hardworking and focused. They come to school everyday ready to learn. They are resilient young people and make me proud daily. In my social studies class the students are required to complete projects, presentations and writing activities that need to be printed in color. They are unable to afford color printers to allow them to be creative with their work. Our school has black and white printers only and for my students to be able to print on color means going to the local library which requires them to take mass transportation far from their homes. Many of them are unable to get there due to the cost. Getting their work printed in color is a challenge to them.

My Project

The printer and supplies I am asking for will give my students a sense of pride. I would like to give my students the ability to be creative with their projects. One of our mid-year projects is creating a medieval persona of a social status. Students research the different levels of the feudal system and create a presentation boards with their information. By having a color printer accessible to my students they will be able to complete their work in school.

They will not have to go to the library or pay for color copies at the local bodegas or pharmacy.

Donating to our project will be worthwhile because they would be motivated to complete assignments and I feel students will feel accomplished.
