My Students

Students in my first grade classroom are very eager learners. They have a variety of academic abilities and opportunities to learn when it comes to reading and writing, but lack the materials to learn through different lenses... I would like to provide them more opportunity to learn through the more hands on experimental approach. All of my students are very excited about science, math, and love learning through experimentation and observation. They thrive on lessons and activities with open ended questions because it promotes discussion, conversation, team work, and enhances students abilities to think outside of the box.

Providing students the opportunity to work with activities like Snap Circuits, iTrax, and Keva Brain Builder blocks will allow learners to investigate, ask questions, make comparisons, and plan objectives with their classmates.

These STEM related activities help promote free-play and do not have a right or wrong answer. I also know that students can create conversation and imaginative play through the use of Rory's Story cubes. These conversation pieces provide all students with ideas, which allows kids to listen, talk, and build relationships with one another. These story cubes can also benefit ELL students, and be a resource to beginning writers.

My Project

These material will heavily impact my classroom community and student confidence by allowing everyone to work together on brain building activities. By having ZOOB BuilderZ and AMOSTING blocks in the classroom it will allow for more play, investigation, and a type of learning early in life that builds skills and interests that will benefit children throughout their school years and later in life. Giving students the opportunity to use more hands on toys, like iTrax and Snap Circuits will provide a more interactive learning environment. Students will not only learn to communicate and work together with their classmates but come up with ways to complete the tasks at hand in their own way and be able to discuss their reasoning.

Student engagement is imperative for learning, and by having these activities available for students during the day will help provide kids the ability to learn and have fun while gaining an understanding that there is more than one way to complete tasks.

Snap Circuits, iTrax, AMOSTING Blocks, Keva brain builders, and Rory's story cubes are materials that will create conversation and allow students to explicitly explain their thinking process to one another. By allowing students the opportunities to take initiative in their own learning through these STEM based educational tools will allow long term academic success in students.
