My Students

I am amazed every day by my students who not only work hard to achieve their academic goals but also demonstrate a desire to grow socially and emotionally. As a public school in New York, we have a diverse population of students who travel from multiple boroughs to come together and collaborate each day.

My school prides itself on providing our exceptional learners with access to rigorous and higher-level courses in the integrated co-teaching setting.

My eleventh and twelfth-grade students study college-level English to help better prepare them to be adults with strong critical thinking skills (an ever-important component of navigating today's world). These students have a wide array of learning styles, interests, prior knowledge, and skill sets joined together with one common goal-- finding their voices through writing.

My Project

As our school continues to grow, we continue to find ways to utilize physical space and resources to maximize our students' day. This upcoming year, my classes will meet in the school library.

I would love to brighten up the room by providing a unique space for students to work in small groups, receive extra support, and feel comfortable expanding on their ideas.

The availability of audiobooks, support centers, and social-emotional tools will help my exceptional learners feel more comfortable on a daily basis. I plan on pulling students out in small groups to this space to actively read together, and engage in minilessons & focused review. Taking AP and College-level classes can be stressful for students with additional learning needs, but with additional resources, they can thrive!

As the year progresses, my goal is for students to become more independent and self advocate for their individual reading and writing needs by utilizing the space during writing workshops to zoom in on key essay components and clarify misunderstandings.

I appreciate any help in this endeavor!
